A new auto dealership chain now?
Are you kidding?
Brands being shut down by manufactuers. Customers unable to quality for new car leases. Dealers unable to keep up with the costs of holding on to their properties. Buyers afraid to make major purchases.
This is the time for starting a new business?
Well, yes. In fact, it's the best time ever.
The team we've put together to build this new company is as good as they come at dealership operations, regional marketing, and stragetic planning. Our advisers are absolute experts in the field. And they agree that the time is now.
Which market would you rather be serving? The little one or the big one? We'll take the big one.Without giving everything away in a public forum, here are a few of the reasons why this project makes sense right now:
- CarMax, the major perceived competition, has a nearly $5 Billion market cap even though they have less than 2% of the national used car market. We don't need to take a single one of their customers to be a major sucess. The other 98% of the market is divided up mostly among small local individual single-point dealers and the used departments of franchised dealerships. That's where our market share will come from.
- There have never been as many quality dealership properties available for sale or lease at one time. This provides a unique time in industry history to acquire multiple ideal locations within a given market and grab a foothold quickly at a reasonable price for the real estate.
- Let's face it, most car dealership operations - the successful ones and the less so - do business the same way that they and their competitors have for the last hundred or so years. The customer walking into the showroom arrives expecting an adversarial experience that hopefully leads to them getting the car they want at a price they can afford. Our model is far more transparent, our sales process diametrically different from the norm. We are creating a welcoming environment where the customer drives the sales process and our staff is there to serve them, not upsell them.
- Our concepts, based on research of women's buying patterns and preferences, means that we are designing from the ground up to appeal to wants of the people who make 78% of car buying decisions. That doesn't mean that men won't want to shop with us. It just means we're giving the female buyers the respect they deserve and too often don't feel like they get in traditional dealerships.
- Single-point used car operations just can't compete in the modern marketplace. The cost of marketing, vehicle aquisition, and distribution is simply too high without building a quality brand that provides a world-class experience.
- While the press talks about the decimation of the new car industry, the pre-owned share of the market remains a constant (in the worse case) and in the short-term a boom business. For many years, there have been a minimum of 40,000,000 used car transactions every year in the United States. This year, with people having trouble affording more expensive new cars, that number will be about 47,000,000, even as new car sales have plummeted from around 17,000,000 to 10,000,000. No major industy pundits see the market ever shrinking below the 40 million norm.
- While the new car franchise dealer is subject to the whims and requirements of the manufactures - everything from pricing to inventory requirements to store construction is dictated to them - our business allows us to buy and sell at the market value of our products. We are shielded from issues like the recent Toyota and Honda recalls since we are able to simply shift our buying to the cars that our customers are looking for at the time.
